A first-person account of an archaeological dig in Israel
by Cathy Passmore
(Posted Wed 10:43 am)

Above, Dr. Bryant Wood, the archaeologist-in-charge of a site about 12 miles North of Jerusalem called Khirbet-el-Maqatir. The site is believed to be the little fortress of Ai, the second city Joshua conquered on the entry into the Promised Land. Awhile back, while digging in my flower beds to plant some flowers, I was drawn back to the last time I was on my hands and knees digging. The posture is certainly the same -- hands and knees, bending over, squatting, or in some cases, actually sitting and digging in the dirt. My reflections, though, were not on previous times planting flowers or vegetables, but on times digging in Israel and most recently, in 2006, in Jordan.
