Tonight's debate format welcomes questions from the public - Three of five candidates have agreed to appear

As of press time Monday evening, three of five candidates who are running for the office of Karnes County judge had committed to participate in a Town Hall style debate which is happening tonight, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Kenedy City Hall Auditorium.
Democrat candidate Burt Utley and Republican candidates Clyde Eckols and Gail Tennant have agreed to appear at the event.
Democrat candidates Alger H. Kendall, Jr. (incumbent) and Barbara Najvar Shaw told The Karnes Countywide that they are choosing not to participate in the event.
According to information provided by the organizers, the event is being hosted by the Maurice Yarter family and the Earl Stimson family and all five candidates running for county judge were invited to participate.
Karnes City Mayor Don Tymrak has graciously agreed to be the moderator for the debate and organizers say that all questions will come from the audience in order to prevent any candidate from having an advantage.
The timekeeper for the debate will be selected by the moderator.
The audience members will be asked to submit a written question.  For the question to be considered, by the moderator, the individual must identify themself and the candidate to whom they want the question directed.
