William B. "Buddy" Hoskins
 (Posted 1/20/2010 05:15 am)
William Bevin “Buddy” Hoskins of Runge, Texas, was born September 10, 1925, near Red Rock, Texas, to Calvin and Edna Hoskins and died January 13, 2010.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Olivia Alexander, and his daughter, Neccia Hoskins.
Buddy was one of the “Greatest Generations” having served faithfully as a Corporal during WWII in the 6th Marine Division.  As a Marine, he was a rifle sharpshooter in the Asiatic Pacific, New Caledonia, and Okinawa and participated in the initial landing and occupation of the Tokyo Bay area.  He witnessed the unconditional and complete surrender of the Japanese Navy on August 30, 1945.
After leaving the military, Buddy returned to Texas and married Geraldine Mary Mixon of Runge, Texas, in 1948.  He worked in the oil field for several years before becoming a Park Ranger with the Texas Parks and Wildlife and continued later with the Texas Building Commission as an inspector.   Upon retirement from the state, he developed Sunrise Beach Campgrounds at Lake Corpus Christi in Mathis, Texas.  For over forty years, Buddy was an estate auctioneer in the family business.  He was a thirty-second degree mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine Hoskins of Runge, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Janie Hoskins of Portland, Texas; his granddaughter and husband, Keri and Josh Novak of San Antonio, Texas; his grandson, Chris Hoskins of Austin, Texas, and great-grandchildren, Avri and Jackson Novak, of San Antonio.   Additionally, he is survived by his brothers, Alvis Hoskins and wife Lynda of Mathis, Texas, and Norlan Hoskins and wife Dorothy of Sinton, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Buddy was a unique individual who maintained his sense of humor throughout his long illness.   We will miss him.  He always did things his way.
