Proud Daddy

On March 2, I witnessed the birth of our third child, Ada Brooke Baker.

I’m a real proud Daddy. I may be biased, but I have to say I’ve never seen anything more beautiful.

I knew I was going to cry at that moment when I heard her voice for the first time.

I did with her older sister and older brother, so it came as no surprise.

It felt right. It felt natural. It felt wonderful.

Childbirth really is a miracle and it seems no less miraculous each time I witness it.

Our first was born in Victoria and our second was born in San Antonio. This one was born in Seguin.

Why all the hopping around?

My wife’s doctors keep leaving the state – not sure if there’s any connection there, but it’s kept her busy looking for a new doctor with each subsequent child.

For us, this most recent experience has been best and easiest so far.

Having had two kids, we really know the ropes now and that makes it a lot less stressful than it was the first or second time around.

We knew what to expect.

My wife and I have decided that "three" is the magic number for us, so this child will be the last one for us, and there is a slightly melancholy feeling that escorts that thought, knowing that this is the last time that I’ll become someone’s Daddy.

It seems sometimes that just when you get really good at something, you’re done.

I’ve noticed this with other "projects."

Whether it was helping my brother put up crown molding in a rental house or putting a new roof on a house, it has always seemed that just when I have enough experience to know what I’m doing, I look up and the project is done.

Some people call this getting past the "learning curve."

I suppose, I’m over this particular curve, now.

Our family is feeling incredibly blessed and we are enjoying every moment with the newest 7 lb., 1 oz. member of the family.

Ada’s four-year-old sister and one-year-old brother are both just beside themselves with excitement and affection for their new baby sister. Our older daughter made a special effort to write the baby’s name in a handmade card that she presented to Ada when she came home from the hospital.

Our family is so very thankful to God for this latest blessing as well as all the other blessings in our lives.

We are very happy.
