And baby makes five?

I’m sure many people know that when a family grows there is an "adjustment" period where everyone gets used to changes that are brought about by the new addition.
Although there have been "moments" since we brought our third child home from the hospital, I’m happy to say that we’re all adjusting to the changes rather well.
One big change came as a result of the fact that we live in one little house.
Our daughter (age 4) and son (age 1) are now roommates, sharing the bedroom that our oldest used to have all to herself.
Although we know this arrangement may not be able to go on forever, for the time being our two oldest children are as happy as two peas in a pod.
The bedroom I sleep in has three occupants: Me, my wife and our two-week-old daughter. I have to say that considering what we’ve been through in the past, these two weeks have gone pretty smoothly. I’m getting more sleep than I expected and even my wife is able to sleep at night in three to four-hour stretches briefly interrupted when she wakes up to open the "all night café"
I have to give credit where credit is due.
If it weren’t for my parents and their willingness to care for our older two children when needed, things would have been a lot more difficult for us. It sure didn’t hurt that my brother and his wife let our oldest daughter come to Austin for a visit during Spring Break. It’s during times such as these when we really appreciate and value our family and their willingness to help out in so many different ways.
Sunday afternoon and Sunday night we were "all on our own" though – just the five of us, and it wasn’t bad at all.
I spent a couple of hours playing outside with our oldest two while my wife attended to some housework and cared for the baby indoors. The weather was beautiful outside as it has been a lot lately.
Early in the evening we came in and got an early jump on bathtime, teeth brushing, etc. Then we all sat together and watched a DVD called "Flushed Away" – a present that my mom gave our oldest daughter.
Dinner was comprised of snacks enjoyed during the movie.
I guess the older kids were tuckered out from playing outside because they were both quiet, peaceful and still while watching the movie.
It was an especially peaceful evening.
After the movie came storytime, and that’s always a lot of fun. Now it’s especially fun because like the bedroom, storytime is also shared.
Soon afterward, lights out, lullabies, and it wasn’t too long before they were both asleep.
I know it won’t always be peaceful around our house, especially with three kids under one small roof, but we’ll deal with whatever comes up like we deal with everything else.
One step at a time.
