The pumpkins arrived
Folks I observed something on Sunday Oct. 15th that thrilled and warmed my heart. One of the projects that the United Methodist Church in Karnes City has is the selling of pumpkins to people of the entire community to help them celebrate Halloween. Be that as it may, this column is not about pumpkins. No Siree! It is about people.
I saw something that is rare in this day and age. I watched with a smile on my face, joy in my heart and a lump in my throat. Folks I saw three generations all working together to unload and display the pumpkins. What a thrill it was for me. Sons, daughters, moms, dads and grandparents all working side by side to accomplish this task. I even noticed my esteemed editor, Joe Baker, as he pushed a wheelbarrow loaded with pumpkins and unloading them on the wooden skids. His daughter, Molly, was right by his side. When the pumpkins were unloaded she would hop into the wheelbarrow for a ride back to the big truck to get another load. Will she remember this? I have a notion she will!
Now folks the profits made from the sale of the pumpkins go to help pay for the youth programs.
Never the less if we do not make a dime over expenses, in my opinion, it is all worth it. It isn’t often you see three generations talking, laughing and working together.
Later I got to thinking that if I had done something it would have been four generations. Hey, wait a minute. I just remembered I did open the church doors and moved a couple of chairs. Hmmm, perhaps, just perhaps, I can stretch a point and say there were and are four generations working together on this project. Praise the Lord!
