Tumbleweeds

Folks when the strong winds blew in, I sat looking out the living room windows and was fascinated as the flowers, shrubs and trees were swaying to and fro by the wind.

It seemed to me that some of the larger trees were actually shivering as they held firm because of their deep roots.

For some reason I suddenly recalled the old western song, Tumbling along with the tumbling tumbleweeds. The tumbleweeds go rolling and bouncing along captured by the force of the wind. Then as the wind shifts they go which ever way the wind blows because they either have very small roots or no roots at all.

I began to equate this with my own life and perhaps, just perhaps one or two of you folks can relate with this also. When the winds blow the tumbleweeds, flowers, shrubs and trees have no choice but to follow the direction of the wind.

As humans we do have a choice!

When the winds of adversity blow we will either react like the tumbleweeds or stand firm because of our deep beliefs.

How do I react to the strong winds of selfishness? What about the winds of pride, anger, position, power, hatred, and the winds of politics that try to divide us and tear us apart? There are many other winds that try to rip us away from our roots. There are also other winds that help to heal us. The calm winds of friendship and love.

In the end it all depends what our roots are anchored in!

The shallow soil of earthly things or the deep soil of love.

The choice is ours!
