Wishing will make it so

The above is the title of a song I remember from my youth. That idea may have been a very romantic notion; but in reality it is completely false.

Never-the-less it is nice to dream and some dreams do come true. However just sitting around dreaming will not cause our dreams to be fulfilled. It usually takes a lot of planning, preparation and hard work to make a dream come true. Be that as it may I certainly believe in having big dreams. History is filled with accounts of people having great dreams and expectations. We have been the beneficiaries of the dreams of others. Most, if not all, inventors and explorers were dreamers. Their ideas and inventions started out as dreams.

Our beloved country was discovered and settled by dreamers! People who dreamed of a land where freedom would reign and they could live a richer, fuller life. A land where the people decided who their leaders would be.

Folks I may be getting senile but I am concerned about our election process. You see, I also recall another song entitled, ‘Someone Is Rocking My Dream Boat.’ As I remember the criteria for being president of the United States is simply that a person must be at least 35 years of age and was born in the United States. Are we now, or are we getting close to the fact that because of the enormous cost of running for political office, only the very wealthy or those who will sell their souls to the highest bidder, can afford to run for high political office?

Now folks I realize this is not always true , never-the-less I am concerned that not someone, but something, is rocking my freedom dream boat and I don’t want my, or more importantly, my great granddaughter’s freedom dream boat to capsize!
