Small incidental insufficient things

Folks the other evening thoughts kept running through my mind that made me wonder about the heading of this column! I came to the conclusion that there may be such things but you and I do not discern which are which and why they occur.

Regular readers of this column may recall that I recently wrote about, Oh, what it seemed to be. I ended that column by stating that Betty’s and my first kiss was simply that, but oh what it turned out to be! I did not relate how that first kiss came about. I will reveal it now.

In those days, in our community, dances were often held in a parent’s barn or garage. This fateful dance was held in a garage. I was invited and brought a date. To this date I cannot recall who she was.

Music was provided by a record player of the host or hostess. After several dances the record player was turned off and we headed for the punch bowl, not spiked, for a refreshing drink. Usually the boys would congregate in one area and the girls to another. After awhile someone would start the record player and we would return to our dates.

That special evening as the music started I headed towards my date. As I got part way there some Romeo turned off the garage lights. I proceeded towards my date and when I reached her, I decided that this was an opportune time to give her a kiss. As we were embraced and kissing the lights came back on. As I looked down into the eyes of my date I discovered that I was kissing, what I thought, at that time, was the wrong girl.

Folks all this was running through my mind the other evening when we were over at our son and daughter’s house to help celebrate our great granddaughter Kate’s birthday. As I looked around at the family and friends gathered there this thought entered my mind. If someone had not turned off those garage lights and I had not kissed the wrong girl none of us would have been there.

So folks we never know what or if some small seemingly incidental thing is really small.

This thing I do know! God can and does turn small things into wonderful things! He works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform!
