The rain watchers

Folks I don’t know if y’all realize it or not but a new classification of people is emerging. They are in south Texas and especially in Karnes County. They are the rain watchers! During one of the downpours I phoned my friend James A. Stewart and asked him what he was doing. "Just sitting here watching it rain," was his reply. This seems to be the answer I receive no matter who I call.

So I am suggesting we form a rain watchers club. We could have T shirts made with our logo of an umbrella on it. I even have a suggestion of our official song. It is: Singing in the Rain.

While watching it rain I remembered a couple of jokes that used to go around concerning rain in south Texas. One was about a south Texas man and his grandson. It seems that some folks were standing around talking and someone said that it looked like it might rain. This old gentleman spoke up and said, "I sure hope so! Not so much for myself but for my grandson. After all I have seen it rain once" The other was concerning the time when it rained for 40 days and 40 nights which caused the worldwide flood. It was said that Karnes County only got 2 inches.

Now with all the rain perhaps, just perhaps these jokes will become passé.
