Now hear me
Folks, when I was in college I had a professor, Dr. Melvin Stucky, who when he was lecturing would suddenly lower his voice an octave or two and say, "Now hear me."
Whenever this occurred, I learned that he was about to say something very important. I also learned that whatever it was, some question concerning it would probably be on a test in the near future!
Now hear me, folks! We, as a nation and culture, need to improve the training of our youth! Unlike Dr. Stucky, I am not going to give you answers. Why? Because I don’t have them, that’s why. Never the less, I am concerned and have some thoughts concerning these problems.
We can not and must not wait for the schools to solve many of these problems. It may be too late for many by the time they reach school age. So perhaps, just perhaps, a big step in helping with many of these problems is working with parents. In my opinion, money would be well spent by hiring specially trained people to visit homes and offer help in the training of children. Oh, I realize some parents would not welcome this approach. There is an old saying, "You can’t save them all!" This is true.
However, many would be glad for the help.
I remember hearing many moons ago that the first step in solving a problem is to recognize you have one.
Folks, hear me! We do have a big problem in our country!
