Men and women, boys and girls

Folks, on New Year’s Day I got to thinking about the past. I know you can’t live back there but it is nice to just visit once in a while.

This may be something that I may have written about before. That is the saying my Dad told me when I was young.

"Joe, you are once a man and twice a boy!"

Being a teenager, and therefore having all the answers, I paid little attention. Dad, I sure remember what you said nowadays.

I am not writing this to be complaining but to suggest that you younger folks take advantage and savor the days of your youth.

Those of us that may be a few years older can look back and savor the memories of our younger days also.

You ladies can recall those days when you helped the young ones get dressed, made breakfast, did the dishes, made the beds, mopped the floor and hundreds of other things that a wife and mother does.

You know folks they always write about how tough the men were back when the west was getting settled; I got news for y’all! The women were tougher!

Be that as it may, we are all once an adult and twice a child.

So, as we grow older we need to adjust!

This is not an easy task. Being used to being able to do many things for ourselves we now have to rely on others to assist us.

My friend, James A. and I discuss this quite often. It is difficult, at times, to admit that we cannot do some things that were easy for us to do not too many years ago. As we age we find that there are things we can now do that we could not accomplish at a young age.

So let us learn to enjoy and appreciate what we are able to do regardless of what age we are!
