The bulldog
Folks, you know by now how much I enjoy colorful language and sayings.
I think I was a fortunate young man to have heard so many informative statements that got the message across without going into a long explanation.
Sometimes the language was a bit off color but mostly these colloquialisms offered good advice.
One of those colorful and old sayings I heard in my youth was, "That won’t feed the bulldog!" The meaning is that a proposal, suggestion, or the way one does a job will not do or does not do the job satisfactory.
Most older folks, I say most, know this to be true. Be that as it may, we need to hand this philosophy down to our younger generation. I say this not because I believe most young people are lazy and won’t work but because it is easy to let things slip by with a half way job, project, or belief.
So let this old man assure you that giving the bulldog a full meal will pay off in the long run. You may get by for awhile by skimping and not giving other people your best efforts. However the bulldog will someday get tired of not getting his just due and bite the hand that feeds him!
