My B. B. gun

How well I remember my first B. B. gun.

I was seven years old and the husband of my oldest sister bought it for me. It was a Daisy. Lee was my brother-in-law but to me, at that age, he was just my sister’s husband.

Lee took me down into the basement of our house and showed me how to load and use that gun. He also told me that I was never to point that gun at another person. I became a fairly good shot, shooting sparrows and black birds that were eating cherries out of our cherry tree.

Folks, I don’t know what makes me remember such small things as the fact that I shot 22 sparrows and four black birds in two days.

All this is building up to the fact that my son, Craig took me to Wal-Mart and I purchased my first B. B. gun in 80 years. Yes, folks, it is a Daisy.

Why did I buy a B. B. gun after all these years? Because we have a skunk that comes into our front yard to eat our bird feed. So I thought if I had a B. B. gun and shot him a few times in the behind he might get the idea that this was not a friendly place to steal bird feed. Oh I could just take my shotgun and kill him but I don’t want to do that.

So this old man will lay in wait for Mr. Skunk and we will see what happens.

Be that as it may, it is kind of fun to be the proud owner of a new Daisy after all these years.
