Sheriff’s investigation finds two-year-old’s death accidental

A two-year-old boy died as a result of injuries sustained after getting inside a family vehicle parked near St. Mary Street in Runge on July 24.

The sheriff’s office investigation has determined that the death was accidental.

Kenedy city council approves change in ordinance

Mayor Randy Garza will take on supervisory duties

The Kenedy City council voted once more on July 27 to amend an ordinance that will transfer job duties from the city secretary-administrator to the mayor, but this time they said how the ordinance would change before taking the vote.

In their July 20 meeting, the council voted to change the ordinance "as discussed in executive session" without publicly stating how the ordinance would change.

Karnes City officials discuss fire service upgrades

Karnes City will be working on upgrading firefighting infrastructure at the local high school and junior high in the coming months as they prepare to start construction on their new park in October, according to discussion at the town’s regular city meeting July 25.

Fire service near both schools has been in dire need of an upgrade for about 10 years, and Mayor Don Tymrak said the area should not be neglected any longer.

Water is quarry at national park

You can talk to a lot of people a long time and never get a specific definition as to what exactly makes up West Texas.

Is it everything from, say, Abilene to El Paso? The Big Bend area? And what about the Panhandle?

No matter the definition, every place west of Fort Worth is usually water starved anyway; being in the current drought only makes things worse.

So any water source out west is treasured. Especially mammoth Lake Meredith north of Amarillo – even when the lake is at a record low.
