News (last updated on September 27, 2006) 10,000 visit Lonesome Dove Fest By Jason Clay Jansky The party was up and moving this year at the Karnes City Rotary Club’s 14th annual Lonesome Dove Fest September 22 and 23. Event officials are calling it a huge success and estimate roughly 10,000 people attended. Motel rooms and bed-and-breakfasts around the county were booked solid as people from out of town flocked to the county for the two-day event. "I would say it was a tremendous success," festival chairman Cletus Bianchi said. "Apparently the word is out via the Web site and things like that and we’ve got more and more people interested in being a part of it." (click here to read the whole story) Kenedy ISD receives $1.8 million grant for expansion of AP programs Washington, DC - Congressman Lloyd Doggett announced last week that Kenedy ISD has been awarded $1.8 million over the next three years to expand and enhance Advanced Placement programs for middle and high school students. "A challenging middle- and high-school curriculum is essential for students to succeed in their future efforts," said Representative Doggett, a senior Member of the Ways & Means Committee. "This grant will give more students more opportunities to learn, advance, and succeed." (click here to read the whole story) Austin television news crew visits Panna Maria By Jason Clay Jansky An Austin television news station has taken interest in Karnes County and will be featuring Panna Maria during its evening broadcast September 30. Fox 7 News sent a cameraman and Field Producer Nik Ciccone to the area September 25, and they spent a good while looking at historic aspects of the oldest permanent Polish settlement in the nation.
