News (last updated on October 25, 2006) Line of credit established for Karnes City park construction By Jason Clay Jansky Karnes City set up a line of credit for construction of the city’s park during their regular monthly meeting October 17. The date of the regular meeting, normally the fourth Tuesday of every month, had been moved to the third Tuesday for October last month. The line of credit grants Karnes City up to $150,000 per month to cover construction and equipment costs for the park. City Administrator Larry Pippen said the city will be paying back the line of credit on a monthly basis and the 5.2 percent interest rate will cost the city around $600 a month. (click here to read the whole story) Three children injured in ATV accident near Kenedy By Jason Clay Jansky Three children were injured October 14 when the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) they were riding in flipped over on County Road 330 near the Kenedy Cemetery. Tammy Strmiska owned the 2000 Polaris Ranger, and the three children riding it were her relatives. Police would not release their names. A 10-year-old boy was driving and two 12-year-old girls were being carried as passengers when the accident happened. (click here to read the whole story) Local student injured in accident By Jason Clay Jansky A local college student escaped a grisly wreck nearly unharmed October 19 when his convertible smashed into two 18-wheelers. Nineteen-year-old Jessie Mendoza, Jr. of Karnes City was traveling north from Beeville when his 1997 BMW Z3 convertible began to drift into the southbound lane. Two 18-wheelers hauling base material were traveling south in tandem heading toward Mendoza. Both truck drivers noticed the convertible heading into oncoming traffic and moved over onto the southbound lane’s shoulder. (click here to read the whole story) Gas compressor station is becoming a nuisance for Hobson residents TCEQ is investigating resident complaints about foul odors By Jason Clay Jansky Officials with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality are conducting ongoing investigations into possible nuisance odors allegedly coming from a sour oil and gas compressor station on County Road 211 near Hobson. The TCEQ has received two complaints this year, one on September 12 and another on October 12, regarding the station. (NYSE: T) today announced expanded availability of AT&T Yahoo!® High Speed Internet to residents and businesses in Runge, Texas.
