Accident shuts down traffic on Hwy 181

A woman’s life was saved after her overturned vehicle caught fire during a midday accident in the southbound bar ditch on the side of U.S. Highway 181 between Hobson and Karnes City on December 7.

Sixty-five-year-old Kenedy resident Bobbie Lozano was thrown from her 2005 Ford Sport Trac as it overturned. She landed about 20 yards from the vehicle before it caught fire. DPS Trooper Alfred Alejos said her ejection probably saved her life.

Fire destroys carport and 2 vehicles near Pawelekville

A trash fire went out of control in Pawelekville December 5, destroying a carport and two cars inside it.

A woman was outside burning a pile of trash too close to a mass of very thick, tall grass when the fire started around noon that day, according to Karnes City Fire Chief Charlie Malik.

The grass caught fire and began burning very fast, spreading to a nearby carport and threatening the house adjacent to it.

Company exploring idea of mining uranium locally using new technique

They are coming not for the Alamo or the friendly people, great weather, fantastic deer and hog, dove and quail hunting, nor for the thick juicy steaks from Shorty’s or even the ice cold Pearl beer. They are coming for the uranium. Borehole Mining International, Inc. President Greg Abramov from Moscow and partner Tom Pool of Colorado recently met with PPT Energy Company, LLC. and Mining Engineer Consultant Jay Reynolds in touring PPT Energy’s uranium holdings in South Texas.
