News (last updated on February 21, 2007) Woman killed, man injured in rollover on FM 81 By Jason Clay Jansky One woman was killed and a man was injured in a single-car rollover accident five miles northwest of Runge during early morning hours February 15, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety report. At about 4:22 a.m., 23-year-old Daisy Eve Ramirez of Runge was heading south on FM 81 when she took evasive action to the left. Her 2005 Pontiac Grand Am skid across both lanes of traffic into a line of trees on the east side of the highway. (click here to read the whole story) Runge city council discusses arsenic treatment project By Jason Clay Jansky Runge’s mayor announced several new city projects during the town’s regular February 13 meeting, including the implementation of an arsenic treatment project. The announcement came last month that Runge had taken first place in a bid to receive grant funding for removing arsenic from drinking water. The Alamo Area Council of Governments issued them $250,000, and Runge Mayor Homer Lott, Jr. said the town’s utility team will begin putting the funds to use implementing a total filtration process. (click here to read the whole story) Lubbock man injured in rollover on Hwy 181 By Jason Clay Jansky A Lubbock man was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital February 10 after his vehicle rolled over twice on U.S. Highway 181. Joesef Sidney King, 31, was heading south on the highway just past the John Connally Unit prison at about 6:30 p.m. when he reached down to get his map from the floorboard. A police report issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety said he then lost control of his 1997 Honda CRV as it went off the southbound shoulder. (click here to read the whole story) Filing deadline for city, school board elections nears Local city and school elections are set for May 12, several local seats on school boards and city councils are set to expire, and the deadline to file to run for office is March 12 at 5 p.m. Those wishing to file as a write-in candidate have until March 19 at 5 p.m. to submit their application.
