News (last updated on May 23, 2007) Karnes City 8th grader released after 20 days in jail Youth charged with making ‘terroristic threat’ moved to alternative campus By Jason Clay Jansky A Karnes City 8th grader was released into his parents’ custody May 17 after being held 20 days in an Atascosa County jail on suspicion he made terroristic threats against classmates. Police have not dropped the charges against the boy, whose name was not released, and Karnes City ISD officials have decided to place him in at an alternative campus. Karnes City Junior High School principal Jeanette Winn said the student’s placement has nothing to do with whether or not he’s considered a danger to his classmates. His placement there, according to Winn, is because of disciplinary issues and other matters the school cannot legally disclose. (click here to read the whole story) Karnes County Show Barn is making improvements By Jason Clay Jansky The next Lonesome Dove Fest or Karnes County Youth Show may be a lot more comfortable. The Karnes County Youth Show Barn is undergoing renovation as contractors install a series of new upgrades to the facility, many of which are geared toward making things easier on event-goers and exhibitors. The biggest improvement included in the $100,000 worth of renovation will be to the restrooms, according to Karnes County Agriculture Extension Agent Dennis Hale. (click here to read the whole story) Break-in victim offers reward for information Police wonder why perpetrators left valuable items behind By Jason Clay Jansky A Karnes City business was broken into and ransacked May 18, but police are puzzled that nothing valuable was found missing. The Mr. E Z Auto Insurance building had several items of worth the night it was broken into, but when the owner arrived to work in the morning, he said nothing valuable was taken. "There was a rock thrown through the front window. They gained entry and ransacked the place. The only thing that was taken, from what he can tell, was two phone chargers," Karnes City Police Chief Eddie Salas said. "That’s it. It’s very strange. He had laptops, he had computers, fax machines, a printer — but the only thing that was taken was two phone chargers." (click here to read the whole story) Family Fun Run/Walk will benefit Karnes City Park The second annual Karnes City Health and Rehab 5K Family Fun Run/Walk in the Park will get underway this Saturday, May 26 at 8 a.m. Participants in the event that will raise funds for the Karnes City Park Fund will begin their run or walk at Karnes City Health and Rehabilitation Center and will proceed along a 5K course through Karnes City, passing by the site of the new park along the way. (click here to read the whole story) HGTV show on Farris Bank will air next week The project to transform a historic bank building in downtown Kenedy into a home for Ed and Kathryn Farris will be featured in an episode of reZONED on HGTV next week. The program will air on Wednesday, May 30 at 5:30 p.m. CST. The project to remodel the building which is now known locally as "Farris Bank" was a labor of love, according to the owners who live in Sugar Land, but spend a lot of their leisure time in Kenedy.
