"We decided we’d try to hold a special election in November, and after (City Secretary Lauren Sturm) looked at the laws, she said we don’t have to hold a special election so long as somebody is willing to serve that term through the next election," Houdmann said during an interview after the meeting. "I told the council I would stay on as long as they had confidence in me." Presently, Kenedy’s arsenic levels are within the requirements, but the city will have to send a notice out to all citizens alerting them that there was a problem. A project to eliminate arsenic from the water has cost the city $1.4 million and even though the water did not meet requirements in the first quarter, city officials remain optimistic, and said that the water is better now than it has ever been.
