Interim superintendent hired by Kenedy school board

The Kenedy ISD school board voted unanimously to hire Ann Dixon to fill the position of interim superintendent during a special meeting of the school board on August 21.

The school board will begin a search for a permanent replacement for Richard Irizarry who resigned as part of a recent contract buy-out negotiation.

Runge band facing challenges

Students forced to choose between athletics and band

It’s getting harder and harder every year for Runge High School to field a band, according to several administrators and the band director at the school.

Scheduling conflicts in past years have made band a nearly impossible elective for Runge’s upper classmen, leaving mostly junior high and freshmen to fill out the band.

"In our situation, we are a small school and kids have to make a choice between athletics or band to fit it in their schedules," said Runge Director of Curriculum Joanne Villarreal.

Citizens give Falls City officials an earful at recent city council meeting

Woman claims she’s being stalked by city employees

Falls City council members spent most of their time hearing from upset citizens during their re-scheduled regular meeting August 22.

They first heard from local resident Janice Mutz who said she has a problem with how she’s being treated by city employees and county Animal Control Officer Karen Hale.

"I don’t appreciate being stalked — terrorized like I was," Mutz said.

DPS troopers say "Drink. Drive. Go to Jail."

Texans planning to celebrate the last three-day weekend of the summer should know that the Texas Highway Patrol will be out in force looking for people who are driving while intoxicated. During the Labor Day weekend (Aug. 31 to Sept. 3), all available state troopers will be out on Texas roadways in support of the "Drink. Drive. Go to Jail." program.
