News (last updated on September 26, 2007) 3 Karnes City businesses hit by burglars By Jason Clay Jansky Three Karnes City businesses were broken into over the weekend. Thieves took small items and petty cash from Karnes Cleaners, Star Loans, and The Market between Friday and Saturday. "We’re investigating, trying to figure out how many suspects and who all were involved," Karnes City Police Chief Eddie Salas said. "It’s a possibility (the burglaries) could have been committed by the same individuals. We’re still trying to recover some information." (click here to read the whole story) Judge dismisses child porn charges filed against Kenedy parents By Jason Clay Jansky Charges related to possession of child pornography filed against Kenedy resident Roy White and his wife Donise White were dropped by a district judge Thursday. A legal problem with the original grand jury indictment prompted Roy White’s attorney William Davidson to file a motion to dismiss. "There was a problem in the indictment. It was not specific enough," Davidson explained. "It was so vague, you could read it and not understand what he was being charged with. I found that problem and I filed a motion to dismiss based on that." (click here to read the whole story) Kenedy company spills 8,000 gallons of diesel By Jason Clay Jansky Movac Service Co. is under government order to clean up a spill for the second time in two years. The company, which is located on US Highway 181 in Kenedy, recently spilled an estimated 8,000 gallons of diesel fuel on its own office property and officials with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality say the company is in the process of getting the spill taken care of. "The company is in the process of cleaning up," TCEQ representative Andrea Morrow said. "There will likely be fines, but that portion of the investigation is not completed." (click here to read the whole story) Falls City officials discuss easement issue By Jason Clay Jansky Falls City council members discussed during their September 19 meeting what to do with an assumed easement that has actually been private property for several years. After speaking with property owner Forrest Balser during last month’s meeting, several council members checked the area out and came to the conclusion the city actually did not have an easement in the area. Despite that, city crews have been accessing city utilities laid in the area for several years now and council members said they weren’t sure what to do. "I think a lot of people assumed," Balser told council members. (click here to read the whole story) Tractor City Country Store Same owners - new look - new name By Jason Clay Jansky The old idea of a country store is returning to Kenedy thanks to a massive remodeling job by John Deere dealers in Kenedy. Formerly South Texas Implement Co., the now remodeled business has changed its name to Tractor City Country Store and the name isn’t all that’s gotten a new face. The entire exterior and interior of the building have been remodeled. New signs and lights and paint have been added to enhance the building’s eye appeal, but the biggest change is on the inside. General Manager Johnny Wright has been busy overseeing the remodeling since March 8.
