News (last updated on November 14, 2007) Sheriff’s office investigating sexual assault in Runge By Jason Clay Jansky The Karnes County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man in his late teens after a Runge woman has come forth claiming she was raped while confronting the man in a Runge alleyway Nov. 4 at around 4:40 a.m. The incident occurred near East Main Street close to the fire station. The woman told police she was investigating a noise when she discovered a Hispanic male about 5’6", weighing around 150 pounds, with short hair, a sparse goatee, and earrings in each ear. The woman said the unidentified man attempted to assault her, and that she defended herself by spraying him with mace. According to information from the sheriff’s office, the man then forced the woman onto the back of a parked fire truck where he sexually assaulted her. (click here to read the whole story) Karnes City ISD voters reject higher tax rate in tax rollback election All 16 Constitutional amendments are approved by voters statewide, but Karnes County voters reject three of them On November 6, voters in the Karnes City school district rejected the school district’s attempt to set tax rates higher than allowed under current state law. A total of 180 residents voted against what was characterized as a "tax rate rollback" election, while 150 voted in favor of the higher tax rate. Although if passed, the $1.17 rate would have been lower than last year’s tax rate, the majority of voters still opted for a tax rate of $1.07 per $100 valuation instead. (click here to read the whole story) Kenedy woman arrested on drug charges By Jason Clay Jansky A Kenedy woman was arrested after police searched her home and found narcotics Nov. 1, according to police. Kenedy police officers entered 35-year-old Christie Valdez’s home on 314 Young Street in the Foster Apartments after obtaining a search warrant from County Judge Alger Kendall, Jr. While inside, they found several instruments used to package and process narcotics along with residue from those substances, Kenedy Police Sergeant Jeremy Stevens said.
