Hobson man dies in motorcycle accident

By Jason Clay Jansky

A Hobson resident was killed in the early morning hours of September 1 when his motorcycle struck a deer on F.M. 1144, according to an official DPS report.

Twenty-four-year-old Nicholas Hons was driving his 1982 Honda motorcycle traveling westbound about three miles west of Karnes City on 1144 when the accident occurred.

Karnes City resident Geronimo Alvear, 29, was riding with Hons as a passenger when their motorcycle struck a deer. Both men were ejected from the motorcycle.

State DPS Trooper Alfred Alejos responded to the call at about 1:50 a.m. Justice of the Peace Caroline Korzekwa pronounced Hons dead at the scene. Alvear was in stable condition and was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio.

"Speed wasn’t a factor," DPS Trooper Alfred Alejos said. "I don’t even believe that he saw the deer. He wasn’t going very fast at all."

Neither of the men were wearing a helmet. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the accident.
