Kenedy Bluebonnet Days this weekend

Kenedy’s annual Bluebonnet Days Festival events will get underway this Friday and will run through Sunday.

The traditional event has grown in popularity in recent years and big crowds are expected to turn out, especially with beautiful spring weather in the forecast.

The Miss Bluebonnet Days Queen’s Coronation will begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the Kenedy High School gym. School children will entertain the new royal court and audience with musical and dance performances.

The 5K Fun Walk & Run will kick off Saturday morning at 7 a.m. at Joe Gulley Park.

The Pancake Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lutheran Church on Hwy 72W.

The Men’s Softball Tournament will get underway at 8 a.m. at Joe Gulley Park.

The Triple Heat Cookoff will take place Saturday at the park and the awards will be presented at 4 p.m.

The Bluebonnet Days Parade will pass through downtown Kenedy along Main Street starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Bluebonnet Days Festival will take place all day Saturday with entertainment and attractions running until 8 p.m. Organizers say there will be fun for all ages with crafts, vendors, games, rides, slides, petting zoo, food, beverages and musical entertainment. Sean O’Brien and Ignition will perform from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and DJ Marin will provide musical entertainment from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission is open to the public and there is no gate fee. Organizers are asking visitors to not bring coolers with food and drinks to the event as there will be food and drink for purchase at the park.

The Car Show will begin at Joe Gulley Park Saturday at 2 p.m.
