Local man charged in child porn case claims innocence

By Jason Clay Jansky

The attorney of a Karnes County man is claiming his client is completely innocent and did not deserve recent charges brought against him for possession of child pornography.

Roy Franklin White, 28, turned himself in to the Beeville Police Department May 28 when a warrant was issued for his arrest after several Beeville Wal-Mart employees reported pictures of nude children found in White’s photo order.

The kids are his and they’re each between the ages of one and seven years. White’s wife took the pictures and he later had them developed. Their attorney, William Davidson of San Antonio, said the entire case is a misunderstanding and has been unfair to his client.

"My client took a bunch of pictures of his kids playing in the pool. Some of these pictures depicted the children without clothes on in the pool. When he had them developed, there are three or four pictures that are a little bit questionable," Davidson said. "There’s no sexual contact. None of the kids are even touching each other. There are no adults in the pictures. It’s just several pictures of kids playing in the pool."

White is on a leave of absence from his job at the Connally Unit state prison while his employment is under review.

"His wife took the pictures," Davidson said. "He’s the one that delivered the pictures. She’s probably going to get arrested, too. I think this whole thing has gotten out of hand. He can’t go to work, his life is basically turned upside down, he’s got to hire an attorney, he goes to put gas in his car and people are looking out the window and pointing at him, and actually he’s scared for his life."

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services questioned White’s children, but have taken no further action.

Beeville Police Lieutenant Regan Scott previously described the photos as obscene, though he declined to state at the time whether White was the father of the children in the photographs. He also declined to elaborate further in regards to the photographs’ content.

Possession of child pornography is a third degree felony in the state of Texas. If convicted, White could face up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000 and he also would be required to register as a sex offender in the Texas database.
