6 men charged in knife attack outside Kenedy bar
By Joe Baker
A Kenedy man was jumped by a group of six men outside Outlaws Saloon in Kenedy on Thursday, July 19.
At about 12:15 a.m. Kenedy police officers were dispatched to the scene on Highway 181 in reference to a reported fight. They found Raul Garcia (29) of Kenedy bleeding from wounds he received after being stabbed by two of the six men who jumped him.
Garcia was transported to Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for injuries sustained in the attack.
All six men who allegedly attacked Garcia are residents of Crystal City.
Five of the men were arrested and charged that night with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony offense. Pedro Adame (24), Edwardo Cervantes (24), Edward Gallegos (37), Romero Jaso, Jr. (26) and Hernando Jesus Carlos (24) were arrested that night.
All five have posted bond of $30,000 each and have been released from the Karnes County Jail.
The sixth man, Armando Rivera (50) was transported via AirLife to a San Antonio hospital for treatment for wounds he received in the altercation. He is also facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police said he was treated and released from the hospital the same day and a warrant will be issued for his arrest.
"Apparently a couple of the guys were fighting with some friends that the victim knew,’ Kenedy Police Sergeant Jeremy Stevens said. "Those friends of his had already left. When he was walking to his truck, all six of these guys went to jump on him. He saw that two of them had knives in their hands. He picked up a stick that was lying on the ground and he used that stick to defend himself which subsequently caused injury to one of the suspects – the one that was airlifted. In the process, he was cut on his left wrist and stabbed twice in the back by two of the suspects. They were all party to the offense so all of them were charged with aggravated assault."
Pocket knives were used as weapons by the men, police said.
