Sheriff’s office investigating sexual assault in Runge
By Jason Clay Jansky
The Karnes County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man in his late teens after a Runge woman has come forth claiming she was raped while confronting the man in a Runge alleyway Nov. 4 at around 4:40 a.m.
The incident occurred near East Main Street close to the fire station. The woman told police she was investigating a noise when she discovered a Hispanic male about 5’6", weighing around 150 pounds, with short hair, a sparse goatee, and earrings in each ear.
The woman said the unidentified man attempted to assault her, and that she defended herself by spraying him with mace. According to information from the sheriff’s office, the man then forced the woman onto the back of a parked fire truck where he sexually assaulted her.
The man also had a crude tattoo on his upper-left bicep area, according to the victim. She described the tattoo as looking somewhat like a wing and said it looked unprofessional and homemade.
Karnes County Sheriff David Jalufka said the incident has been under intense investigation since it was reported to his department. He and other officers have been searching for anyone matching the perpetrator’s description and are asking for help from area residents.
The victim also told police the suspect wasn’t wearing shoes — only socks — the night of the attack and that his socks looked to be rather clean.
Jalufka said he highly suspects the person responsible for the attack was living or staying in a Runge residence close to the fire station the night of the assault.
Jalufka is encouraging any person with information on the attacker’s identity to call the sheriff’s office at 830-780-3931.
