Kenedy ISD hires new superintendent

By Joe Baker

The Kenedy ISD school board voted 5-2 to hire Janet LaCour as superintendent of schools during the board’s meeting Monday night.

Trustees Frank Nieto, Leo Valerio, Velma Garza, Jimmy Burns and Tony Mejia voted in favor of hiring LaCour. Trustees Carl Lundquist and Ed Monson voted against.

The board had selected two finalists earlier this month and Interim Superintendent Ann Dixon characterized them as "neck and neck" – very close in terms of qualifications.

The contract sent to LaCour offers an annual salary of $92,000 plus benefit package that includes health insurance and other benefits. She is expected to begin work sometime in mid January.

LaCour has 30 years of experience in the field of education and holds a doctorate degree from Texas A&M Kingsville. She currently lives in Spring Branch, Texas and is currently employed by the Wimberley Independent School District.
