Two Runge residents were killed in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon at a location about two miles west of Runge near the San Antonio River bridge.

Patricia Saenz, 47, and Neccia Hoskins, 51, were traveling on State Highway 72 at about 12:05 p.m. when their vehicles collided.

Saenz was traveling westbound in a 2004 Ford Ranger when, according to a DPS incident report, she failed to negotiate a sharp curve. Hoskins was traveling eastbound in her 2002 GMC Sierra and attempted to avoid the incoming pickup truck by veering to the right.

Hoskins was in the right-hand shoulder of the eastbound lane when Saenz’s truck hit her vehicle head on. Both drivers were killed and Justice of the Peace Delia Villanueva pronounced them dead at the scene.

The report indicated both parties had been wearing their seatbelts and did not indicate any other factors like weather or alcohol contributed.

DPS Trooper Javier Reyes investigated the incident.
