Kenedy shooting under investigation by police
By Jason Clay Jansky
Kenedy police found a man shot dead at a Kenedy residence after responding to a call January 18.
Roland Carrasco (42) died after he was shot once in an event police are saying they believe to not be a suicide. Kenedy Police Chief Duane DuBose said his department believes someone was on the other end of the handgun that killed Carrasco at 511 Victoria Street.
Police recovered the handgun, took several statements from witnesses in the area, and they have a suspect connected to the shooting. DuBose said he’s holding off on making an arrest until lab results come back.
Justice of the Peace Gilbert Garza pronounced Carrasco dead at the scene after police found the body at around 4:30 a.m.
"We received several statements from people that were in and near the house. At this time we’re looking at it as, not a suicide, but as an active shooting case. We do not believe it is suicide. That’s one of the big rumors," DuBose said.
He would not divulge specific details about the shooting, citing the case’s active status. He did want to assure the community the police department is on top of things, though.
"It’s an unfortunate and a sad incident that occurred. There are a lot of rumors, there’s a lot of innuendo being said and done (but) we’re going to act according to the evidence and what we can take to the district attorney’s office," DuBose said.
Bexar county crime labs currently are working on processing the evidence Kenedy police collected. DuBose said he’s hoping to get back definitive results late next week.
