A Pawnee man was taken into custody March 3 after Kenedy police found his wife shot in the stomach in Kenedy.

Fifty-year-old Miguel Grimaldo was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and his wife, 48-year-old Susana Grimaldo, was taken to the Karnes County Airport where she was transported to a San Antonio hospital.

Police found the two driving west on State Highway 72 after they received a report of a shooting on 515 Lavaca Street. Susana had been shot in the abdomen with a 38-caliber handgun and both she and her husband claimed the incident was an accident.

Both said they were heading home from their friend’s house on Lavaca Street before calling EMS.

Miguel remained in custody on a $300,000 bond as of press time Tuesday. Police said Susana was reported to have been in good condition after receiving medical treatment.
