Karnes City ISD voters reject higher tax rate in tax rollback election
All 16 Constitutional amendments are approved by voters statewide, but Karnes County voters reject three of them
On November 6, voters in the Karnes City school district rejected the school district’s attempt to set tax rates higher than allowed under current state law.
A total of 180 residents voted against what was characterized as a "tax rate rollback" election, while 150 voted in favor of the higher tax rate.
Although if passed, the $1.17 rate would have been lower than last year’s tax rate, the majority of voters still opted for a tax rate of $1.07 per $100 valuation instead.
School district officials said the higher tax rate was needed to fund improvements to school facilities. Statewide, many voters rejected similar tax rollback elections. In San Antonio, four of five tax rollback elections were rejected by voters.
Statewide, all 16 constitutional amendments were approved, but in Karnes County, three of the amendments were rejected. See below for complete Karnes County results.
