Police arrest three people and seize cocaine, marijuana and cash

By Jason Clay Jansky

Kenedy police ended an investigation into drug activity Friday when the Karnes County Tactical Team served a search warrant at 207 Lavaca St.

Three individuals in their twenties were arrested after police say they found drugs in the home and on the individuals.

Members of the tactical team recovered an assortment of drugs, according to Kenedy Police Sergeant Jeremy Stevens.

"We located a large quantity of illegal narcotics," he said.

Along with $1,800 in cash, Stevens said police found 22 individual bags of cocaine and crack cocaine along with 12 individual bags of marijuana.

Residents Jimmy Joe Martinez, 25, and Rosemary Salas Rodriguez, 31, were charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, a first-degree felony. Both also were charged with delivery of marijuana, a state jail felony.

An individual at the residence at the time of the search, 24-year-old Donald Bradley Johnson was arrested on third-degree felony charges of possession of a controlled substance after police say they found cocaine on his person.

After their arrest, Martinez and Rodriguez both were released on $200,000 bond and Johnson was released on $30,000 bond.

Police began looking into activity at the residence on Lavaca St. after receiving phone tips about alleged drug dealing in the area. After police obtained probable cause, County Judge Alger Kendall, Jr. issued the search warrant.

The Karnes County Tactical Team — a group consisting of police officers from the Sheriff’s Department, Kenedy, and Karnes City police agencies — is a specially trained group of officers equipped with tactical weapons.

The team was formed about four months ago and its purpose is to safely and effectively carry out search warrants for illegal drugs, stolen property, and other purposes.
