Four contested local races at stake in upcoming elections
By Jason Clay Jansky
Several local candidates have filed for county offices and are seeking positions on Commissioners Court, the sheriff’s seat, constable positions, and other offices.
In the sheriff’s race, incumbent David Jalufka has filed for re-election to the position as a Democrat and one challenger, Charles White, has also filed for the position as a Democrat.
Two separate elections will have to be held for Karnes County Commissioner precinct 1. Carl Hummel and Robert Leal have filed as democrats. The winner of that race will run in the general election against Steve Ryan, who has filed for the office as a Republican.
In precinct 2, Donald Edward Hons and Lynn Malcolm have both filed as Democrats for the constable position.
In precinct 3, Democrats Dwayne Villaneuva and Robert Rosales both have filed for the constable position.
Several other candidates currently have no opposition.
Incumbent Democrat Robert Busselman has filed for the county attorney’s seat.
In precinct 3, incumbent County Commissioner James Rosales is seeking his seat unopposed as a Democrat.
Constable precinct 1 incumbent Democrat Dennis Fenner has filed to keep his position as has constable precinct 4 incumbent Democrat Fernando Rios, III.
