Karnes City Chamber’s ‘Casino nite’ banquet this Saturday

By Jason Clay Jansky

The Karnes City Chamber of Commerce is set to hold its annual banquet March 3 and will be sticking to its "casino nite" theme for the third year in a row.

The venue also will stay the same — the doors open at the Panna Maria hall, just across the street from the church in Panna Maria on FM 81, at 6 p.m.

Casino-style gaming starts at 6:30 p.m. Roulette, craps, blackjack, and Texas Hold ‘Em will be available to play until 9:30 p.m.

Each ticket holder will receive 25,000 units of "funny money" to use at the gaming tables. At the end of the evening, winnings can be used to purchase raffle tickets and names will be randomly drawn for several door prizes.

The grand prize of the evening will be airfare and hotel accommodations for two to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served throughout the evening along with complimentary frozen margaritas and Shiner beer. Sodas, coffee, water, and other beverages also will be served.

"The chamber board directors will be catering and we’re going to have all sorts of interesting hors d'oeuvres," Karnes City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Maggie Hunt said. We’ll have hot wings, sausage, meatballs, marinated cheeses, small deli sandwiches, and different salads."

When the gaming is through, awards will be presented to Karnes City’s citizen, business, and organization of the year.

Tickets for the event are $15 in advance or at the door. Corporate tables are available to purchase.

"It’s different from a sit-down, rubber chicken banquet," Hunt said. "It’s all about the fun. It’s not necessarily fund raising; it’s about giving back and having fun for the community. That’s one of the things the board is very firm about. It’s just to be able to have a good time."

Hunt also said "Elvis" is due to make a guest appearance at the event.
