Break-in victim offers reward for information

Police wonder why perpetrators left valuable items behind

By Jason Clay Jansky

A Karnes City business was broken into and ransacked May 18, but police are puzzled that nothing valuable was found missing.

The Mr. E Z Auto Insurance building had several items of worth the night it was broken into, but when the owner arrived to work in the morning, he said nothing valuable was taken.

"There was a rock thrown through the front window. They gained entry and ransacked the place. The only thing that was taken, from what he can tell, was two phone chargers," Karnes City Police Chief Eddie Salas said. "That’s it. It’s very strange. He had laptops, he had computers, fax machines, a printer — but the only thing that was taken was two phone chargers."

Salas said his department is actively involved in the case and that the matter will remain under investigation. Several clues, including the main point of forced entry, have led the police and Mr. E Z Auto Insurance owner Carlos Felan to believe youths could possibly have been involved.

"It had to be somebody pretty small to get in through that front window without getting cut. There were some jagged edges of broken glass in the window," Salas said.

Felan is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
