Commissioners Court approves expansion of Kenedy city limits

Architects hired for construction of new building for county offices

By Elise Tennant

The Wal-Mart Supercenter is now officially within the Kenedy City Limits after action taken at the July 20 meeting of Karnes County Commissioners Court.

Currently, the new Wal-Mart has a highway address, but will soon become a part of the City of Kenedy. This means the new city limits will be in front of the street adjacent to Wal-Mart (Business Park Drive).

County officials also decided to use architects David Bogle and Andrew Perez III for part of the courthouse renovation project. Bogle and Perez will be involved in the construction of a separate building that will house the county clerk, sheriff’s department, justice of the peace, and the juvenile and adult probation centers.

The building will be on the courthouse square, across the parking lot from the courthouse.

"We hope to get started with construction this fall," said County Judge Alger Kendall Jr.

The decision to raise the minimum wage for county employees to $5.85 per hour was approved. It will become effective as of July 23.
