Candidates file for March primary elections

Several local candidates have filed for county offices and are seeking positions on Commissioners Court, the sheriff’s seat, constable positions, and other offices. They will square off in the upcoming March 4, 2008 Democratic and Republican Primary Elections.
In the sheriff’s race, incumbent David Jalufka has filed for re-election as a Democrat and one challenger, Charles White, has also filed for the position as a Democrat.
For Karnes County Commissioner precinct 1, Carl Hummel has filed as a Democrat and Steve Ryan has filed as a Republican.
Several other candidates currently have no opposition.
Incumbent Democrat Robert Busselman has filed for the county attorney’s seat.
In precinct 3, Commissioner James Rosales is seeking re-election and is currently unopposed as a Democrat.
Constable precinct 1 incumbent Democrat Dennis Fenner has filed to keep his position along with constable precinct 4 incumbent Democrat Fernando Rios, III.
In precinct 3, newcomer Democrat Dwayne Villanueva is the only candidate to have filed for the constable position.
Currently no candidates have filed to run in the county tax assessor-collector, precinct 2 constable, and county treasurer races.
The deadline to file for office is Jan. 2, 2008. The primary election date is set for March 4, 2008 and the general election date is slated for Nov. 4, 2008.
Candidates wishing to announce their candidacy in The Countywide have until Feb. 4 at noon to submit their 300-word announcement. See page 3 of this week’s issue for more details.
