Fees abolished at Runge City Council meeting
By Cathy Passmore
The first order of business for the Runge City Council members was to proclaim "April as Fair Housing Month" in Runge during their April 8 meeting.
The council then passed the request to abolish fire equipment maintenance and street paving fees. They also passed for action to be taken to make corrections needed and required regarding the electrical deficiencies in the city park. The city also approved the purchase of three cement/wood park benches for citizens and visitors for the City of Runge.
Sidewalk repair in front of the museum on Helena Street was approved by the council members and part-time maintenance personnel will be promoted to full-time status.
The council members did decline, however, the request for the tax freeze on homestead property owners disabled or 65 years or older in the city of Runge. And the members declined to consider and act upon a 2008 consumer price index adjustment to municipal telecommunications right-of-way access line rates.
A special "Spring Cleanup Day for City or Weekend Time" was discussed but not decided upon. A decision for the day will be made soon and the date will be published in The Countywide newspaper when available.
