Committee recommends posting FCISD school board meeting minutes on school web site
By Kevin Matula
During the April 16 Falls City ISD school board meeting, the site based committee recommended that the district should post approved minutes on the district web site.
According to Superintendent Linda Bettin, not many districts put their minutes on the school web site. Bettin said they are made available to anyone who wants to see them in the superintendent’s office during regular school hours, although she said very few people request minutes.
After the March 19 board meeting, community member Steven Swierc requested that the board post the minutes on the school web site.
"We have limited personnel and the committee wanted to make sure that the request did not add too much additional work to staff," Bettin said via email.
The district web site is at www.fcisd.net.
The board of trustees also approved hiring Todd and Vanessa Pawelek to teach science and math.
"Because of the new state mandate that students must take four years of math and four year of science to graduate, we needed additional teachers in those areas," Bettin said.
Todd and Vanessa Pawelek will not start until the 2008-2009 school year.
The board also decided to fund a new school SUV. The new SUV is a 2009 model and will cost the district $28, 746.
The board also approved to fund new metal lockers for the field house. According to Bettin, the new lockers will make it easier to keep the area sanitized.
According to Bettin, it was decided to wait for funding of additional projects until budget workshops (during the summer) and prioritize them at that time.
