Pickup driver abandons vehicle after crash

By Jason Clay Jansky

A vehicle owned by a Wilson County resident ended up crashed in a ditch on the side of County Road 210 during the early-morning hours of October 1, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

DPS Trooper Steven Bailey investigated the scene of the accident where the 2001 Dodge Ram had ended up crashed.

It was about 6 a.m. when the driver was on F.M. 99 heading west, Bailey said. The driver decided to take a right onto County Road 210, but was going too fast. The driver ran off the left side of CR 210, overcorrected to the right, and ended up in the ditch on the right side of the county road.

"They kind of got hung up in the middle with the rear end of the truck stuck up in the air," Bailey explained. "If there was a passenger, I don’t know, but the driver took off on foot. He went north on County Road 210. We followed the footprints, but then they ran out. We assumed somebody picked him up. I haven’t been able to contact him."

The vehicle was impounded, but no one has since come to claim it. Bailey said it smelled like alcohol inside the truck when he arrived on the scene.
