Runge city council discusses water system problems

By Jason Clay Jansky

Runge decided on a few routine items and discussed a sewer problem briefly during their short city meeting October 10 at city hall.

Mayor Homer Lott briefly touched on the problems the city is having with Kline Engineering, a company that had been responsible for the installation of two new city lift stations, and Peerless Equipment, the company responsible for supplying the parts.

Both sewer lift stations are faulty after four months of operation and they each have a one-year warranty Lott says he’s trying to fall back on. He’s met some resistance, though, he says, and he noted litigation may be required later down the road if the problem isn’t solved through non-legal means.

Lott and council member Eloy Nunez elected to table the meeting’s other big item of discussion — the upgrade of Runge’s computer systems — in light of the roof at city hall needing repair. Council member Irma Ortiz was absent from the meeting.

Nunez and Lott also took action on a few routine items, naming the city’s official newspaper, attorney, accountant, and auditor for the coming fiscal year. The mayor also agreed to read a proclamation at an October 12 football game for "Lights On Afterschool" day.
