Local officials are reminding residents that today, Jan. 31, is the last day to pay the 2006 property taxes without accruing the additional seven percent penalty and interest required by law to be added to all unpaid 2006 taxes due.

The first quarterly payment is due and the last day to set up a quarterly payment plan on your homestead with an over 65 exemption is January 31.

All mail must be postmarked January 31, 2007. The office hours for the Karnes County Tax Office are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is also a night drop at the back window to drop off payments through the night. Credit card payments (Discover, MasterCard, andVisa) are also accepted.
