Stolen items found by Kenedy police at Martinez residence
By Jason Clay Jansky
Kenedy police executed a search warrant at suspected burglar Ansony Martinez’s Kenedy residence recently and recovered several items they say ties him to many more burglaries around town.
The largest items of value recovered were the tools that had went missing from the old Rialto Theatre building some time late last year. The owners of the theatre had been renovating the building when they arrived one day to find their tools gone.
Other items also were found that tie Martinez to the January 2 burglary of the Kenedy Baptist Church and the January 26 burglary of Phelps Family Dentistry, according to Kenedy Police Chief Duane DuBose.
"We searched his residence and recovered property from several burglaries. We recovered stolen property in the burglary at the Rialto, Phelps Dentistry, and, we believe, items (stolen) from the Baptist church," he said.
Martinez, a 32-year-old Corpus Christi resident, had been staying in his mother’s house in Kenedy where the items were recovered.
DuBose said his department will be investigating each incident of burglary over the past year to check for any possible involvement Martinez may have had.
Martinez currently is in custody on $500,000 bond at the Karnes County Jail. He’s been charged with one count of evading arrest or detention, one count of burglary of a building, and three counts of burglary of a habitation.
DuBose said charges in other burglaries will be sought against Martinez during the April 2 grand jury.
