Kenedy Fire Department purchases new truck through grant funding

The City of Kenedy and the Kenedy Volunteer Fire Department would like to announce the newest edition to the city’s firefighting arsenal, a 2007 International Brush Truck.

According to Kenedy Fire Department President Isaac Alarcon, the fire truck is built on an International chassis, and comes with a four stroke, inline six cylinder diesel engine, fully automatic transmission and it is a 4x4 truck.

It is equipped with a 1250 foam capable water tank with a rear mounted pump. The truck also features a driver controlled front nozzle sprayer for quick firefighting response and state of the art communication system.

It will be manned by a three man crew when responding to fire incidents. The addition to the department’s fleet will enhance the level of firefighting service for the community and other local departments.

In addition to the vehicle, the department will be able to outfit members with essential firefighting individual protective equipment through the awarded grants.

The city was able to purchase the vehicle and equipment through a Texas Forest Service grant and a grant awarded by the M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson Foundation, Inc.

"The Kenedy Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the community and its volunteer firefighters for their continued support and look forward to even more years of service," Alarcon said.

The 2007 International Brush Truck will be on public display on March 1 starting at 9 a.m. at Tractor City Country Store in Kenedy.
