KCISD bands will present ‘Concert in the park’ this Sunday
By Kevin Matula
The Karnes City ISD Bands will present the 1st Annual "Concert in the Park" on Sunday, April 27 at the new Karnes City park.
The high school, junior high, beginner, jazz bands and the 5th grade Recorders, will perform from 2-5 p.m.
"We are trying a new venue for the spring concert," Head Band Director Sherry Marshall said. "I am hoping it will promote the new city park and give the band students more diverse performance opportunities."
Marshall came to the district in 2004 as assistant director, and became the head director in the fall of 2007. She said that she has played in several community bands, which performed in outside venues, such as concerts in parks.
"Outdoor concerts provide a less structure, more relaxed atmosphere," Marshall said. "People may be more willing to bring families and small children in the park."
The high school band will be playing 6 songs, the junior high band will play 5, beginner band will play 5, and the jazz will play 3. All of the bands will play a finale song. The elementary, recorders will play 4 songs.
Elementary Music Teacher Cassie Gotthardt is excited about the new venue that her students will be performing at.
"This venue allows it to be much more casual and less intimidating for my young performers," Gotthardt said. "I believe that playing with the band and hearing the sound of the instruments together and up close will really excite my student about participating in band next year."
The Band Boosters will have a concession stand, available. The public is welcome to attend.
