VELMA GLADYS WARNER

On May 7, 2008 Velma Gladys Warner, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at Nesbit’s Living and  Recovery Center in Seguin, TX. 

She was born August 17, 1908 in Karnes County Texas, the first child of Zillman and Maude Smith Jones.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Thomas Gaston Warner.  Velma was an outgoing and energetic woman with a great sense of humor and love of life.  She was a housewife and helpmate to her husband who was a farmer and rancher in Runge, TX.  She loved her extended family and friends.  She was a lifelong Methodist and loved her Lord and the church.

Out of her own generation she is survived by her sister Addie Pat Goldman of Falfurrias, TX, and her sister-in-law Joyce Oetken of Runge.  She is also survived by her sons, Warren Allen Warner and his wife Connie and Thomas Owen Warner and his wife Josie.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Gay, Cary, Beth, and Gaston, numerous great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. 

Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rhodes Chapel in Runge, TX with visitation beginning prior to the service Saturday morning at 10 a.m..

Interment followed in the Runge City Cemetery. Her grandson, Rev. Gaston Warner officiated the services.  Pallbearers were Jim Lehne, Jerry Treybig, Frank Dromgoole, Stephen Hull, J.R. Meza and Barry Meza. 

The family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the Guadalupe Regional Hospice, 1215 E. Court St., Seguin, TX 78155.  Services entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home, Inc.


MELVIN BOOKER, SR.

Melvin Booker, Sr., of Kenedy, passed away May 7, 2008 at the age of 63 in San Antonio.

Melvin was born August 31, 1944 in Kenedy. He married Chita Villegas. Melvin was retired from the City of Kenedy. He was a member of Gallilee Baptist Church.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Chita Villegas of Kenedy; step-daughter, Tina (Kirk) Sczepanik of Kenedy; sons, Mevin (Sonya) Booker, Jr. of Rosamond, CA, Jody (Jelma) Booker of Elmendorf, Michael (Sarah) Booker of Floresville and Roman King of Kenedy; step-sons, Henry (Yolanda) Garcia of San Antonio and Jaime (Dinae) Garcia of McAllen; brother, Charles King of Luling, LA; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Pervect King; mother, Jorsie Booker; sister, Joyce Booker and brothers, Willie Morris Booker and James Napolean Booker.

Visitation was held Sunday, May 11, 2008.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 12, 2008 at 12:30 p.m. at Eckols Chapel with Rev. John Wheat officiating.

Burial followed at the Kenedy Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Creswell, Alex Campbell, Willie Campbell, Henry Rogers, James Campbell and Edward Gabrysch.


PEDRO DE LA GARZA, III

Pedro De La Garza, III, of Kenedy, passed away May 7, 2008 at the age of 40.

Pedro was born March 13, 1968 in Kenedy. He was a IPP fiberglass fabricator and a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.

Pedro is survived by his mother, Ogla Salinas De La Garza of Kenedy; daughter, Kristen Nicole De La Garza of Kenedy; sisters, Janie Howard of Merridian, MS, Rosie De La Garza of Kenedy and Florinda Salazar of Atlanta, GA; and brothers, John De La Garza of Converse, Manuel De La Garza of Kenedy, David De La Garza of Mineral Wells, and Joey De La Garza of San Antonio.

Preceded in death by his father, Pedro De La Garza, Jr.

A rosary was held Friday at Eckols Chapel.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Szyda officiating.

Burial followed at the Loma Alta Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Morelos, Andy Morgan, Leo Lira, Joe Morelos, Jr., Rudy Garcia, Sr. and Roger Barrios.
