The smile says it all

Following a family tradition

Karnes City freshman Brittany Kinney soars through the air

at the event Friday, earning a gold medal -- carrying on a family tradition.
Brittany Kinney's mother, Tonja Kinney, won two medals in the state track and
field meet in 1988.

Beavers, Beaverettes compete in three events at state

Falls City High School athletes competed in three events at
the state track and field meet in Austin Saturday.
The Beaverette 1600-Meter Relay Team finished in 4th
place at the meet.
Team members are Amanda Pruski, Kristen Woelfel, Tori Wiatrek
and Samantha Wiatrek.
"The girls ran their best time of the year at 4:07," Coach
Tammy Kirchhoff said. "It was an exciting race and I am so proud of these
girls."
Samantha Wiatrek competed in the high jump at the state meet
and brought home 6th place honors in the event.
"Sam injured her knee before the regional meet and competed
with an injured knee," Coach Tammy Kirchhoff said. "This took a lot of heart –
but all the girls ran with heart – it was a great effort and a great year."
The Falls City Boys 1600-Meter Relay Team also competed at
the state meet and finished in 5th place.
Team members are Emil Kroll, Willie Holz, Cody Swierc and
Colt Jendrusch.
Falls City coaches said the boys did a fantastic job and had a great year.

BEAVERS FINISH SEASON AS BI-DISTRICT CHAMPS

The Falls City Beavers ended their season this weekend with
two losses to Brackett High School, 7-4 and 6-4.
The Beavers ended their season with a loss in the Area round
of the playoffs and were Bi-district champions.
The team’s overall record was 12-9 (7-3 in district and 2-3
in the playoffs).
"We had a great season and I am extremely proud of them,"
said Coach Joshua Haws.
"It is the 1st time in ten years that the Beavers have advanced to the area
playoffs. The three seniors (Kyle Perna, Ray Urbanczyk and Ty Moy) all
played a big part in our success and they will be missed. Next year’s
returners gained some valuable playoff experience and we are expecting big
things for next season. We will return seven starters and 11 of the 14
varsity players."

Kenedy 7th grade girls dominate in Stockdale tennis tournament
Kenedy Middle School student Saren Sutton defeated Lillian
Vickery also of Kenedy 8-4 in final competition to win the Gold medal in the 7th
Grade Girl’s Singles division.
Lillian Vickery earned the Silver medal.
Rebecca Brown won her match against Wells of Nixon-Smiley 6-3
taking home the Bronze medal.
Also competing in the division were Amanda Escandon and Trina
Almanza.
At the meet Escandon defeated DeLeon of Nixon-Smiley 6-2, and
was defeated by Sutton of Kenedy 6-0. Almanza fell to Wells of Nixon-Smiley 6-3
and was defeated by Scarbrough of Nixon-Smiley 6-4.
In the 8th Grade Division, Samuel Serna and Aaron
Castillo competed in singles. Serna was overcome by Ruiz of Nixon-Smiley 6-2 and
defeated Mejia of Runge 6-4. Serna went on to play in the finals of consolation
and was beaten by Robinson of Nixon Smiley 6-3. Perez of Nixon Smiley was the
victor over Castillo 6-2 in the first round but Castillo played a close match
against Robinson of Nixon-Smiley 6-4.
In the 7th Grade Division, James Lopez played against
Backer of Stockdale and lost in tie-breaker 7-5. Lopez went on to defeat Holmes
of Nixon Smiley 6-0 and losing consolation to Leal of Karnes City 6-3.
The tournament was hosted by Stockdale ISD at Seguin’s Starcke
Park on April 19th.
"All of the athletes demonstrated great sportsmanship and set a
high standard in the program," Coach Isaac Alarcon said.
